Product Description

This series of 9 sculptures was created in honor of the Hindu Holiday of Navratri, the nine night celebration of 9 different incarnations of the goddess Durga.

Night 8 honors Ma Mahagauri. This form of the goddess represents when Parvati became a renunciate and underwent severe deprivation to attain Lord Shiva as her husband. She rides Nandi, Shiva’s white bull and represents purity and prosperity. In her four arms she holds Shiva’s trident, Shiva’s damaru (drum), and makes her hands in the abhaya and varada mudras.
